Big Comedy UK is working with Salt and Tar, Bootle to bring an incredible lineup of comedy to the brand-new Salt and Tar Fringe Festival this Spring Bank Holiday Weekend 23rd to 26th May 2025
Formerly known as the Comedy Weekender, the festival has grown into a celebration of diverse entertainment, attracting top talent and drawing hundreds of visitors over the last two years. The Fringe Festival promises to be even bigger and better in 2025 celebrating all things comedy, music, and the arts.
The festival will feature: Clinton Baptiste, the hilarious clairvoyant and psychic from Peter Kay’s iconic Phoenix Nights, comedy legend Mick Miller often referred as ‘the bald man with the long hair’ and one of the UK’s most cherished entertainers, still at the top of his game after over 40 years. TV faces Maisie Adam and Ignacio Lopez known for appearances on shows such as Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You, and QI. Dan Nightingale, host of the smash-hit podcast Have a Word and Nina Gilligan, a fast-rising star and multi-award-winning comedian.
The comedy takes place in a luxury, fully-seated marquee, offering an intimate and unique setting to see these stars up close and personal.
Salt and Tar is a multi-use, outdoor events venue, located in Bootle directly behind the Strand Shopping Centre. Salt &Tar is Sefton’s newest hub for large-scale and community events. Their events program offers a wide range of entertainment from comedy to music to street food events.

Bingo Nights UK Presents Disco Bingo
Eyes Down for a fabulous night of fundraising with this truly interactive event. Disco Bingo is exactly what it says on the tin; a full night of traditional style Disco and Bingo but with a modern twist!
Guaranteed to get the whole room up and dancing, classic disco hits are triggered when certain bingo numbers are called. The entire evening is peppered with music and good-natured banter provided by comedian and presenter Brendan Riley.

Entrances
Entry to Salt and Tar is via Washington Parade and Strand Road Bootle, right next to The Strand Shopping Centre and just a few minutes from Bootle New Strand Station.
Parking
There is no on-site parking however there is plenty of on-street parking around the immediate location.
Public Transport
Merseyrail operate frequent services on the Southport line which stop at both Bootle Oriel Road and Bootle New Strand train stations, both which are walking distance to the venue. Train timetables can be found here (https://www.merseyrail.org/)
Bootle Strand bus station is also walking distance to the venue, bus routes can be found here (https://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/timetables/#bus)
Accessibility
This event takes place in a fully seated marquee. General seating is unreserved, if you have any special requirements such as wheelchair space please contact us in advance and we will do our utmost to accommodate you.
The venue has an accessible entrance and is on hard tarmac flooring. There may be low ramps to negotiate at the entrances. All seating is at ground floor level. There will be accessible toilet facilities onsite. Please be aware that shows can be noisy with spontaneous loud laughter, clapping, music and various public address announcements. We want our less able customers to enjoy our shows without barriers. If this means you need a carer to accompany you to an event, we may be able to accommodate this at our discretion at no additional charge subject to availability and appropriate supporting documentation.
